Nirvana - Bleach

It was released on the legendary indie label Sub Pop.Nirvana's debut album "Bleach" met with little fanfare upon its release in 1989.Released on the seminal Seattle label, Sub Pop, the album is an impressive work. Kurt Cobain was a troubled young man and his conflicts, fears and angst drove his music. Bleach has a much heavy grunge sound to it than their subsequent releases, but it still has the crisp melodies that separated the band from the rest of the grunge artists.

"Bleach" is grunge in its truest sense-distorted guitars, fuzz, feedback etc.Songs like "About A Girl", "Negative Creep" and "Blew" have almost pop sensibilities but unlike most happy, sunny pop songs, the lyrics about hurt, obsession, betrayal.While the songs aren't as tightly written as those on "Nevermind" and "In Utero," it's still a fine collection of well-crafted songs. Most of the songs are powerful barrages of machine gun guitars and stinging feedback.At the height of hair-metal, few outside the Seattle underground scene had heard of the band, much less the word "grunge."

Nirvana - MTV Unplugged in New York [LIVE]

The album Nirvana's Unplugged remains one of the band's most majestic moments.It was recorded just six months before the death of Kurt Cobain and released just six months after.November of 1994 saw the release of Nirvana's first posthumous album, "MTV Unplugged in New York." Kurt Cobain seems completely relaxed throughout, and he gives some staggeringly beautiful vocal performances. Dave Grohl plays the drums with wire brushes and demonstrates that he was just as capable of subtle shading as he was at hard-hitting fury. Krist Novoselic proves himself to be a worthwhile musician as well, playing accordion on "Jesus Doen't Want Me For a Sunbeam" in additon to playing a very solid-yet-laid back acoustic bass."MTV Unplugged in New York City" would be a somber enough album as is, but considering Cobain died shortly after it was recorded, the album takes on special meaning.

The album possesses the tone and atmosphere of a funeral, although it's not so depressing that it becomes unlistenable.The Nirvana power trio of Cobain, (guitar, vocals) Dave Grohl, (drums, bass) and Krist Novoselic (bass, accordion, guitar) is joined by Pat Smear (guitar). Lori Goldston (cello) joins the band for many of the songs. Curt and Cris Kirkwood (guitar, bass) of the Meat Puppets join the band for three renditions of songs from the Meat Puppets "Meat Puppets II" (1984). A second guitar player thickens the sound and leaves Cobain free to solo. The added cello works very nicely, enhancing and enriching the songs. The added cello especially shines in "Pennyroyal Tea" and "Something in the way." this is the best live album of the 1990's and among the best ever.

Nirvana - In Utero

Nirvana "In Utero" consider to be one of the best rock albums of the 90's.Nirvana's greatest single musical accomplishment in their short lived career as the world's biggest and best rock band in the world."Nevermind" has made Nirvana the most famous rock band in the world. In Utero, deal with the high price of fame. "Serve The Servants", "Scentless Apprentice", "Dumb" and "Milk It" deal with the trappings of superstardom. "Frances Farmer Will Get Her Revenge On Seattle" is a powerful song about the former actress who went crazy from the pressures of Hollywood. Not everything is about rock stardom though. "Heart Shaped Box" is about his relationship with Courtney Love and it is one of the most stingingly powerful songs the band ever recorded. "Pennyroyal Tea" is a soft and almost touching song that stands out next to a song of unbridled fury like "Tourette's". "Rape Me" opens up quietly with the guitar riff from "Smell Like Teen Spirit" before diving into a furious crashing of guitars. It was their second album and sold a staggering 18 million copies worldwide.After the huge success of Nevermind, Nirvana became reluctant superstars and the poster boys for the new Alternative music scene.

Nirvana - nevermind

Nirvana's "Nevermind" what I should supposed to say.Nirvana's "Nevermind" is undoubtedly one of the greatest rock albums of-all-time. From the classic intro of "Smells Like Teen Spirit,"In Bloom", "Lithium", "Come As You Are" (my personal favorite from the band), and, of course, "Smells Like Teen Spirit". But the album as a whole is amazing. "Drain You" is one of the best Alternative songs ever made. "Breed", "Territorial Pissings", and "Stay Away" are punk rock perfection" to the subdued closing "Something In the Way," every song is both instantly memorable and brilliant.At the end of "Something in the Way" we get a few minutes of outtakes with Kurt going even more mental than anything you've heard on any of the earlier tracks which I thought was interesting. There isn't a single bad song on this disc. "Nevermind" is like a greatest hits in of itself.And still "Nevermind" often emulated, never duplicated, is still one of the best albums of all-time and belongs in every rock collection.
