The Beatles' "Abbey Road" was the goofy album cover where all four band members are crossing the street.There is not a false note on this album. It kicks off with a forceful vocal from John Lennon on "Come Together," which is balanced by the tenderness of "Something," one of George Harrison's best songs.

2. I Should Have Known Better.
John's harmonica opens the lively "I Should Have Known Better", with great backing from George's guitar.
3. If I Fell
"If I Fell", sung by John, but with harmonies sung by him and Paul is one of two great ballads here, and showed how they were progressing in comparison to their contemporaries.
4. I'm Happy Just To Dance With You
"I'm Happy Just To Dance With Her" is George's only lead vocal, and like "Do You Want To Know A Secret", is a Lennon composition. With the later albums, George would sing the stuff he wrote.
5. And I Love Her
"And I Love Her", the other sweet romantic ballad, is sung by Paul, with Ringo doing some work on bongos. This is one of the reasons why I favour Paul's vocal talents over the other three.
6. Tell Me Why
"Tell Me Why" is the really racing number the Fabs do at the concert finale in the movie
7. Can't Buy Me Love
"Can't Buy Me Love", sung by Paul, is the other song I'd nominate as having that classic Beatles sound. No shot in the arm for materialism here: "I don't care too much for money/money can't buy me love"
8. Any Time At All
"Any Time At All" has John assuring a girl that "Anytime at all, all you gotta do is call and I'll be there.
9. I'll Cry Instead
"I'll Cry Instead" has that late 50's sound the Beatles were used to covering in their early days. I detect a melody similar to the Stones' "19th Nervous Breakdown" in some parts
10. Things We Said Today
"Things We Said Today", another Paul number, is a reflective but mid-paced number distinctive in having that opening guitar riff that repeats itself after Paul finishes the chorus.

The last three songs are all John songs: there's a kind of stomping rhythm in "When I Get Home", "You Can't Do That" is one of those jealous man songs that would figure later in Rubber Soul--e.g. "Run For Your Life". The slightly gentler "I'll Be Back" seems to be an afterthought to "You Can't Do That"

The Beatles - 1962-1966 (The Red Album)

The CD version was planned for 1992 then delayed until 1993. Prior to both projected release dates, it was announced that it would be a double disc affair even though the entire two albums could fit on one disc with 15 minutes to spare.
It begins with their 1st single "Love Me Do", has the essentials like "Yesterday" (the most covered Beatles tune in history), "A Hard Day's Night", "She Loves You", "I Wanna Hold Your Hand" (their 1st single in America), "Eleanor Rigby" (the beginning of their experimental phase), "Help!" (which was literally John's plea for help), and "In My Life". They feature the 1st ever "intentional" feedback on "I Feel Fine" and John once called the "Ticket to Ride" "1st heavy metal song" (Come on, John! It's a rocker but not the Yardbirds!). "Nowhere Man" is a song John wrote about himself.

The Beatles - 1967-1970 (The Blue Album)

The Beatles greatest songs have been compiled only one time in the last 30 years, in 2000's "1". It's fun to go back to the companion 1973 releases "1962-1966" and this "1967-1970" (28 tracks, 99 min.), and marvel in particular at the latter's song selection and sequencing."1967-1970" compiles singles, Number One hits, and key album cuts from the "Sgt. Pepper," "The Beatles," "Abbey Road," and "Let it Be" albums. Unlike "1," which excludes important tracks that didn't top the chart, the Blue album is a more comprehensive survey of the group's later work. There's the deliciously trippy "Strawberry Fields Forever," the impossibly catchy "Revolution," George Harrison's masterpiece "While My Guitar Gently Weeps," and " don't let me down.

The Beatles - Anthology (1995)

The most interesting thing from the TV special in 1995, the 3 albums that followed and the 8 VHS tapes that expanded the story was the fact that it was "The Beatles" in their own words and recollections.
Tape 1 begins with a video collage of their history, features their youthful beginnings, days in Hamburg, how Ringo joined the band, and their rise to the top in England.
Tape 2 shows their growth as a band, talks on their BBC sessions, performing for the Queen, stories about touring, and some hilarious TV segments!
Tape 3 begins with their introduction into America, talks about their performance on the Ed Sullivan Show, Ringo's tonsilitis, and their 1st movie A Hard Day's Night.
Tape 4 talks about the pressures of touring, drugs, Dylan, the making of Help!, the inspiration for Yesterday, and winning the MBE award.
Tape 5 talks about their Shea Stadium performance, meeting Elvis, Rubber Soul and Revolver.
Tape 6 talks on the events that led to the Beatles' final tour in 1966 (the Philippines and John's remarks about Jesus), Strawberry Fields Forever, Penny Lane,Sgt. Pepper, and their holiday in Greece.
Tape 7 starts with the One World performance of "All You Need Is Love", and talks about the Maharishi, the death of Brian Epstein, Magical Mystery Tour, the opening of Apple, Yellow Submarine, and John's new companion, Yoko Ono.
Tape 8 begins with the White Album, discusses the closing and dissolution of Apple, Hey Jude, Let It Be, Paul's marriage to Linda, John's marriage to Yoko, George and John's drug busts, Abbey Road, and the Free As a Bird video (what? Real Love isn't included! ).

The beatles - Help! (UK) [SOUNDTRACK]

Who can forget these lyrics: "Help me if you can--I'm feeling down/cause I do appreciate you being around/Help me get my feet back on the ground/Won't you pleeeeaaaase please help me?" John gets good backing vocal help from Paul and George."Ticket To Ride" has a slow driving force, "It's Only Love" questions feelings and "You've Got To Hide Your Love Away" is another Lennon gem. "Act Naturally" is Buck Owens song, but it may have well been written for Ringo Starr.The other cover, Dizzy Miss Lizzy, is a rock'n'roll song originally performed by Larry Williams
