Joe Satriani - Flying in a Blue Dream

It's an extremely hard rockin' blues number that never lets up. A classic.Guitar god Satriani's 1989 release "Flying in a Blue Dream" is just outstanding.He just rocks from the beginning to the end of the disc. He also uses different styles for his songs. There are serious "I Believe," and humorous "The Phone Call." He's a decent singer, but obviously it's at guitar shredding that he really shines.The title track is one of Joe's best songs he's ever done. Joe's guitar playing is bone chilling and beautiful

Joe Satriani in his new "Super Colossal", proves again that he is one of the most influential rock guitarists He continues to define his sound developing further and further his distinct musical tunes.Joe Satriani is a master of his element, an excellent musician all around. But his songwriting has grown increasingly stale, and Super Colossal is no exception. Overall, it is a good album, but there is really nothing new on it, leading one to believe that Satch will stubbornly continue to rehash old songs and pass them off as new ones. Nonetheless, people will continue to buy his albums merely because he is who he is. Someday perhaps he will surprise us with something fresh and shocking, but that day has not yet arrived.

Joe Satriani - Surfing with the Alien

It is No doubt Joe Satriani is the greatest rock guitarists of all time. He influenced as many guitarists as he was influenced by, and manages to set the standard for creativity and technical prowess in the world of instrumental guitar rock. When this album was released back in '87, it was unique and unlike anything else being played at the time. Sure, guitar-shredding was fairly popular, with technicians like Yngwie Malmsteen, Tony MacAlpine, and Vinnie Moore receiving due credit in the world of neoclassical rock, but there was little variation between these artists and their lightning-speed scales, arpeggios and classically inspired licks.

Surfing With the Alien was Joe's first successful record, and after listening to it just once you'll understand why. Joe eschews needless self-indulgence like most 'guitar heroes' and just plays rocking songs with interesting melodies.This album showcases a brilliant musician at the height of his powers and is probably his best album; at the very least, it's my favourite work of his as it manages to show the versatility and technical proficiency of Joe in 10 fabulous tracks.What I like about Joe as well is his great humility and generosity. He doesn't keep what he knows to himself like a trade secret but he openly shares his knowledge and is a great guitar teacher. He's had Steve Vai and Kirk Hammett among his long list of admirers and students and he continues to inspire guitar enthusiasts and dummy guitarists like myself after all these years.

Joe Satriani - The Electric Joe Satriani: An Anthology

Anthology or "greatest hits" album. If you're looking to get into Joe for the first time, start here. When I consider reviewing anthologies, collections and so on, I generally look for a few points, namely does this serve as a good introduction for a listener and putting aside personal preference, is this representative of what the collection seeks to accomplish? "The Electric Joe Satriani" seeks to cover a 20 year career on 2CDs. It focuses on the studio material, meaning nine albums worth of material and one track on an EP, includes one unreleased piece and one track that was a bonus on a Japanese release. The samples pulled from each of his studio albums is quite good and adequately represent each studio work. The older tracks are indeed remastered here. Joe is my favorite instrumentalist by far and my favorite guitar hero too.

Joe Satriani - Professor Satchafunkilus and the Musterion of Rock

I've been a fan of Joe satriani music since listened Surfing with the Alien from my brother, and he turned me onto the whole burgeoning genre of instrumental rock, my exploration of which continues to this day through Steve Vai, Eric Johnson, Liquid Tension Experiment, Bozzio,Levin,Stevens, Greg Howe,Paul gilbert,Balawan ,Tohpati,Dewa Budjana,Faizal Reza,Ahmad Dhani,lisianova and too many others to mention. I have all of his discs, and I always look forward to his new releases with great anticipation. I have seen him live on three different occasions. So my review is a comparison of this release to his other works as well as to those other artists I mentioned.This release starts off with the great melodies we all love Joe for, and the monotonous rhythm tracks we always pray will magically disappear. It's a mixed blessing. One of my favorite Joe CDs is his self-titled effort, with a group of hard-core musicians who helped push him along through the tracks and provide counterweight to his huge sound. I much prefer seeing him live because the rhythm section gets to live it up a little and provide some meaty fills.
