Dream Theater - Falling Into Infinity

All I know is that everyone in Dream Theater is a tremendously gifted musician, and despite the difficulties they made a fine album with Falling Into Infinity.And as we obviously know that John Petrucci, John Myung, and Mike Portnoy are incredible musicians.They bring "Take Away My Pain" is another ballad, and another beautiful song that I loved.This was the turning-the-clock-around album for Dream Theater. Mike Portnoy said that this album nearly killed Dream Theater because the record company wanted them to make a commercial album.Mike Portnoy says that the recording of Falling Into Infinity almost broke the band up. Pressures from their record company to make a commercially appealing album were teeming here, evidenced by some very commercial rock songs and some standard ballads. I despise it when a record company tells you what to do, but Dream Theater compromised.This album has gotten a lot of negative response because, apparently, it's their commercial album. Well, don't take that too seriously, because aside from a few weaker songs this album is frigging amazing.

Dream Theater - Awake

In 1994, Dream Theater released their heaviest album to date, "Awake". It's also possibly their best. Well, either way, this album is amazing, and if you're a fan of Dream Theater it's obviously a must.
As time progressed this is not a Dream Theater album for beginners, because of how heavy it is, but even if it is a first, you may might like it in the end. It was, after all, my first, and now they're one of my favorite bands. Regardless, this is a must for any Dream Theater fan. A dark, overlooked masterpiece.While lyrics deal with addiction, betrayal, love, hate, a veritable collage of human emotions. This album has some of their heaviest riffs, and some of their most beautiful melodies. "6:00", while not their best song, is one of their most aggressive, and indeed a great way to start off an album like this. "The Mirror" and "Lie" are a great one-two punch of crunchy riffs, and great lyrics and vocals.

Dream Theater - Images and Words

Dream Theater are in impressive form on this album "Images and Words".But Mike Portnoy on drums, John Petrucci on guitar, and Kevin Moore on keyboards and John Myung's bass part usually manages to lend a supportive role rather than a leading presence, but his musicianship and technical mastery of the instrument is quite good as well.Dream Theater manages to fuse balladic lyrics and melodies with searing riffs and unusual technical complexity. Rare is the band that pulls off such a cacophony of stylistic unconformity and makes it work. In Images & Words, DT usually not only makes it work, but makes it enjoyable to listen to.While much of this album is positive in tone, "Learning to Live" is more contemplative and somber

Dream Theater - Train of Thought

Dream Theater's new album is definitely their heaviest since "Awake", if not ever. It's mostly good, and I like it better than their last album, "Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence". It's less experimental, Progressive rock metal bands. By being the number one progressive band in the world they have been anointed to carry the torch throuand a more straight-forward sounding progressive metal album.There's pros and cons to the heavier, more aggressive sound on this album. There's definitely a lack of great melodies, especially during the instrumental sections, which instead of interesting melodic lines, they are pretty much just going up and down scales.Dream Theater is the most visible, most revered and best known of all gh the dark passages of mundane popular music. Though they are not my personal favorite Progressive band.

Dream Theater - Octavarium

"Octavarium", Dream Theater's ninth studio album, is definitely a change in direction from "Train of Thought".Bassist John Myung propels album opener "The Root Of All Evil" with a weight equal to that of Mike Portnoy's forceful but finessed drumming and guitarist John Petrucci's masterful riffing which seems once more to widen the realm of possibilities available on the instrument. Keyboardist Jordan Rudess lends subtle and deft touches throughout helping further solidify the outfit's equally strong footing in the worlds of heavy and progressive rock.Since 1994, Dream Theater has followed an uncanny pattern in album excellence. "Awake" was unbelievable - "Falling Into Infinity" was pretty good - "Scenes From a Memory" is the best album of all time - "Six Degrees ..." has its creative merits - "Train of Thought" is an unstoppable beast.Although the album Octavarium may not survive the test of time like "Images and Words" or "Scenes From a Memory" have, it is still a delightful listen and an impressive creative output.

Dream Theater - Live at Budokan

A treasure-trove for Dream Theater fans, Live at Budokan presents an entire three-hour performance at Tokyo's famed Budokan arena on April 26, 2004, along with a bonus disc rich in supplementary material.Dream Theater live at the historical Japanese avenue, the Budokan, at their finest. i think DT have taken their music at another highest after having Rudess on keys, he is much more than just a keyboardist, combining speed, technique, musicality, together with Petrucci, Portnoy and Myung, they expanded their musical level to somewhere that no one had done before.There is a very cool documentary of the band on tour in Japan. John Petrucci, Mike Portnoy, and Jordan Rudess take us into their worlds and show their equipment setup. There's also an interesting video history of the band that takes us back to the beginning where it all began.

Dream Theater - Live with the Octavarium Orchestra

Dream Theater played "Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence" and "Octavarium" all the way through. Those two songs alone ate up 1/3 of the show. The band was as amazing and tight as always, no more discussion needed on that subject. The Orchestra really added to the second half of the show, but more importantly, they didn't drown out the band the fans paid to see.The best part of the second DVD has to be the documentary showing the history of the band from the days of being at Berklee School of Music up to the present day. Definitely a good look into DT's history, and a great companion to the book that Rich Wilson is writing on www.dreamtheaterbook.com.Overall, this is an amazing DVD from one of the best progressive metal bands ever, and if you favorites Dream Theater latest release over previous works, this will be a treasure.

Dream Theater - Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence

This is music that is soothing, yet heavy. This is music that is fast at times, and then slows down at others. This is music that forces you to think, and constantly gasp in awe and excitement.Dream Theater's new 2 CD set "Six Degrees Of Inner Turbulence" marks a slight growth in the band. This album is much more experimental and varied than their previous albums like Images And Words, Awake and Scenes From A Memory. This album is filled with many complex and lengthy tracks, but the good news is they don't seem that difficult to sit through, as each track is adventurous and a treat to listen to.Dream Theater pushes ahead of the pack in terms of creativity and resourcefulness, without ever losing touch with their ability to communicate their sophisticated music to their audience with emotion and sincerity. The kings of progressive metal yet again prove why they are the genre's best band.
